All seafaring positions require a Transport Canada Certificate of Competency, a valid seafarer’s medical, and STCW endorsement.
Several seafaring positions we recruit for include:
Master
The Master is responsible for the overall safe and efficient operation of the vessel. They have the authority to make decisions regarding the environment, the personnel aboard, the safety and protection of the vessel, and the cargo.
Chief Officer
Second in command, the Chief Officer is the Officer-In-Charge in the Master’s absence. This individual must ensure the safe operation of the vessel and her personnel. This role includes coaching, training and supervising junior officers, as well as allocating work assignments to deck crew.
Second Officer
Designated as the Navigation and Safety Officer of the Vessel, the Second Officer must maintain a safe and efficient navigational watch, as well as maintaining all lifesaving and firefighting equipment. Ensuring that all navigational equipment is in good condition, preparing Passage Plans and completing pre-departure checks are an important function of this role.
Junior Officer
A Junior Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and efficient navigational watch as well as a multitude of safety operations including maintenance of all lifesaving and firefighting appliances and preparing emergency drill reports.
Deckhand
A Deckhand position carries many exciting and challenging responsibilities. These include anchoring handling, handling ship assists lines, performing fire and security rounds, towing operations and watchkeeping duties.
Chief Engineer
Keeping the Engine Room running efficiently and environmentally sound is the main objective of the Chief Engineer. To make certain that this is done properly and safely, they must ensure that watchkeeping arrangements have been made and proper maintenance and repair of machinery and electrical equipment are performed. The Chief Engineer is also accountable for the distribution of work, and the supervision, performance appraisals and training of engine room personnel.
Second Engineer
Reporting directly to the Chief Engineer, the Second Engineer is accountable for the safe and effective performance of the engine machinery, as well as the completion of planned maintenance activities. The training, supervision and performance appraisals of both junior engineers and engineering cadets are responsibilities of the Second Engineer.
Third Engineer
An efficient, safe, and well maintained Engine Room is a key concern for a Third Engineer. They are also responsible for the observance of safety procedures and ensuring that all areas and equipment are in clean condition. This includes supervising cadets to guarantee that the cleaning station tasks are performed.
Junior Engineer
By maintaining a safe and efficient Engine Room watch and monitoring the performance of the machinery, the Junior Engineer plays a key role in the safe, efficient and economical operation of the vessel’s machinery and equipment. The individual is also responsible for any maintenance or safety procedures assigned by the Chief Engineer.
